Your trimester-by-trimester guide

Pregnancy is easier to navigate when you know what each stage holds. In the first trimester (weeks 1–12), your booking visit matters most: we confirm the pregnancy, check your blood pressure and bloods, start folic acid, and plan your scans. Nausea and tiredness are common — small, frequent meals help, and severe vomiting is worth a call.

The second trimester (weeks 13–27) usually feels the kindest. Your anomaly scan around week 20 checks your baby's growth and development in detail. This is a good time to think about where and how you would like to deliver, and to ask us about painless delivery if it interests you.

In the third trimester (weeks 28–40) visits become more frequent. We watch your baby's growth, position and movements, and your blood pressure and sugar. Pack your hospital bag by week 36 and keep your documents together.

Call us straight away — any time, any trimester — if you notice bleeding, severe headache, blurred vision, fluid leaking, reduced movements after week 28, or pain that does not settle. Our maternity team is available around the clock.
